This Week's App: Figma

What is Figma?

Figma is a web-based design, prototyping, and whiteboarding tool used by designers and educators to create user interfaces, collaborate on design projects, and collaborate on work through online whiteboards. It allows multiple people to work simultaneously, making it a powerful tool for group-based design work. It helps everyone bring ideas to life!

What can it be used for?

Figma is all about two things, creativity and collaboration. With Figma, you can encourage your students to be more creative and work together doing it. You can have them use tools like stamps, sickies, and widgets to create interactive learning environments. You can have them use their mock-up tools to create unique assignments like prototypes, mind maps, storyboards, brainstorms, and infographics. Figma allows you to have your students do this on their own and with other students as well.

How do I get started?

Figma has a lot of different options for people looking to get started. If you teach in K-12, you can get access to all their tools for free, just to their Education K-12 page to sign up for a free account. If you aren't in K-12, you can go to their sign-up page to get access to a basic account to start.

Once you sign-up for an account check out their Help Center to learn more about the tool. They have plenty of resources that can help you get started.
