This Week's App: EdPuzzle

What is EdPuzzle?

Video-based learning is ubiquitous. EdPuzzle turns this commodity into a luxury again: interactions during videos and deep analytics on watch-time and interactivity all in a secure learning platform. This freemium tool helps you make the most of your instructional videos.

Turn the one-way street of watching content into an interactive two-way learning experience with prompts, reflections, and Q&A.

With EdPuzzle, you will know if your students are engaging in your content and empower feedback loops in your classroom. Upload videos or link to outside ones to turn the one-way street of watching content into an interactive two-way learning experience with prompts, reflections, and Q&A.

What can it be used for?

The primary use for EdPuzzle will be to deliver videos to your students in a new way. YouTube does have excellent analytics, but EdPuzzle is designed for academic contexts.

You can trust that when you and your students are using the platform that their privacy is being respected, they are not being distracted by other videos, add interactions into videos and you can identify any gaps in knowledge as they progress through your curriculum.

How do I get started?

Head over to EdPuzzle.com and sign-up for your free account. You will need to determine if their free offerings will be sufficient for your use. The free account only allows you to store 20 videos, so you will need to either create a strategy for rotating your learning content or limiting your content per semester. After that, consider your video strategy. Use these questions to help you process your first steps:

  1. Do all of your videos need to be interactive?
  2. Which videos are longer or provide more concrete information?
  3. Can you focus on some videos with interactions to help students reflect or practice concepts as they watch?
