This Week's App: Notion

What is Notion?

Notion is an all-in-one digital workspace that allows you to plan, organize and display information. You can create anything from a website to a wiki to a Pokédex. Our HiTech website is built and managed in Notion. The point is that Notion helps you order and organize information. Project management boards can be built in Notion, even group projects can be written in Notion.

Notion helps you order and organize information

It's such a powerful tool that allows you to integrate Blocks of content (quotes, images, text, lists, and more) into any number of Pages that cross-reference one another. It's a bit ethereal just to explain, but take a look at this set of guides for some inspiration.

What can it be used for?

Ultimately, Notion could be used for anything: websites, magazines, resource repositories, hobbies, research papers, résumés, and so much more. For academic purposes, we would encourage you to think about how to get the students working in Notion for authentic and practical purposes.

Some ideas could be to have your students...

Whatever the purpose, you and the students should take some time to learn the scope of the tool and dream up an end product that will wow you and them.

How do I get started?

First! Head over to their Free for Education page. Notion offers individual students and faculty free use of their platform. There are, as always, a few limitations but this is a big upgrade from just the trial version.

Then, check out their Template Gallery. The gallery will give you access to a huge amount of templates that are already fully built and can be duplicated into your Notion so you can adapt them. Then for more help check out their Help Center to answer all of your questions. Oh, and if you hadn't noticed, these are built-in Notion.
