What is H5P?

H5P is an open-source content creation and collaboration tool that allows you to create interactive content that can be added to a variety of websites and learning environments.

Creating truly interactive learning experiences can be difficult if you don't know how to code, but H5P allows someone with almost no experience to be able to create rich interactive experiences that can help foster better learning. With H5P you can create all kinds of content and applications that will allow you to design rich learning experiences.

What can it be used for?

H5P at its core is meant to help you create interactive digital content. For instance, you can...

• Create interactive videos with call-outs or questions that change a video from a passive experience to an engaging one, like this video.
• Build scenario games like this Home Visit scenario. It brings together media, text, and scenario questions to create a role-play experience that lets students actually make choices and apply their learning.
• Create interactive images with hotspots to create engaging knowledge checks. This vegetable hotspot is a great example.
• Build interactive books that bring together all different types of media, hotspots, text, etc. to create a rich reading experience just like this Interactive Berries Book.

The list goes on and on, you can create almost 50 different types of interactive content and then host it on your own server or even place them in your Learning Management Software.

How do I get started?

Start with going through H5P's Getting Started guide, it will show you how to create an account and get started creating content. If you are not sure what type of content to start creating check out H5P's large library of example content that can show you exactly what you can do with the tool.

Finally, if you need instruction on how to create content check out H5P's content author guide. It will show you how to create content and what your hosting options are. It is important to note that if you want to host it in your Learning Management Software like Canvas or Moodle, you will need to pay for a premium account.

Once you take a look at those guides and decide where you want to host the content, all you need to do is start creating!
