What is Poll Everywhere?

Poll Everywhere has a name that says it all. The tool gives you the ability to generate polls and interactive questions/surveys that can provide live results to your students almost immediately. All you have to do is put in your questions and then you can get live graphs that show how your students responded. You can use it in class or even through an online class session. The great thing with this tool is you can create questions and then just share a link with your students so they can get in

What can it be used for?

Poll Everywhere has a ton of different question types that you can choose from, but some of their major ones are:

• Multiple choice — This option is pretty standard, you can provide several different types of choices that they select from and then get a graph that shows what percent of the class choose what. It works great for generating conversation in class.
• Word cloud — With the Word cloud option you can have your students respond to a question or idea and see a word cloud generate based on their response right in front of the class. It works great for small formative assessment techniques.
• Q&A - Your students can respond to a question and then upvote or downvote answers. This is great for gathering a consensus in the class.
• Clickable images — You can upload an image in this option and have students click anywhere on it to respond. Great examples of this would b uploading a map and having them identify areas on that map or uploading a picture of the body and having your students identify the body parts.
• Open-ended — You can of course ask free form questions where the students type in their answers for you to read.
• Competition — With this option, you can create a series of questions that students compete to answer the quickest and get points for finishing.

At HiTech we see Poll Everywhere being great for small formative assessment techniques in class or it can be used to create some great games as well.

How do I get started?

To get started, sign up for a free Poll Everywhere account and then begin playing around with the different question types they offer. We recommend starting off small, maybe look for a question, poll, or activity you can integrate into your presentation or class time.

Create the question and then follow Poll Everywheres instructions for sharing that poll with your students. We always recommend trying may the exit ticket or entrance ticket techniques with this tool
